U.S. Route 1 (Barnum Avenue) Resurfacing
The project consists of the milling and paving of a portion of U.S. Route 1, (Barnum Avenue) in Stratford, along with revisions to the existing lane designations/striping. The new lane striping will enhance traffic operations and safety in this heavily travelled corridor.
The purpose and need for this project is to address deficiencies in the existing pavement, increase rideablity, and enhance safety.
The proposed resurfacing and restriping will take place in the fall of 2013 and will be performed during nighttime hours to minimize any traffic disruption.
US Route 1 Intersection Improvements
This work consists of two separate projects
State Project No. 138-211 will upgrade the intersection of Barnum Avenue and West Broad Street. The work includes minor curb relocation and an upgrade to the existing traffic signal at this intersection. In addition, the existing signal at Barnum Avenue and California Street will be upgraded
State Project No. 138-212 will upgrade the intersection of Barnum Avenue and Route 108 (Nichols Avenue). The work will consist of curb relocation, minor widening and an upgrade to the existing signal.
These two projects are currently under design and construction is anticipated to begin in 2014.
This Public Information Meeting is being held to afford a full opportunity for public participation and to allow open discussion of any views and comments the community may have concerning the proposed project. The meeting facility is ADA accessible. Language assistance may be requested by contacting the Department of Transportationís Office of Communications (voice only) at (860) 594-3062 at least five working days prior to the meeting. Language assistance is provided at no cost to the public, and efforts will be made to respond to requests for assistance.
Preliminary plans will be available for public review at the meeting. Department personnel will be available during the meeting to discuss these projects. More detailed information is available at the Department's Office of Engineering, 2800 Berlin Turnpike, Newington, Connecticut, during office hours, Monday through Friday, 8:30 a.m. to 4:00 p.m., excluding holidays.
